Mixed media art refers to a visual art form that combines a variety of media in a single work. For example, if you draw with ink, then paint over it with watercolors, then add some highlights in colored pencil – that’s mixed media! In this course, students will create art pieces using different media- both analog and digital. In the photo at the top of this page, a student created an oragami cat with paper and markers, then used photography to take a photo of it outside. Next, we digitized the image, and printed it using sublimation ink and sublimated it onto a canvas pouch. This is another example of a mixed media art project.

What’s exciting about this course is how students will learn to combine artistic methods to create one of a kind pieces. They will get the chance to try out using a lot of different media and find what they enjoy most. Some projects will be one-week projects and some will span a couple weeks as we let materials settle and dry between steps.

This is a fun course for students of all creativity levels and really helps kids realize their artistic potential. Everyone will finish the course knowing they are a true artist!
